Here are a brief look at the following parks I visited camping and geocaching in the southeastern corner of Minnesota. Fall colors will soon be at their peak at the end of September and beginning of October. What a wonderful time to get outdoors and commune with nature. Forestville Mystery Cave is located near Preston, Minnesota. There is a cave 6 miles from the park entrance known to be longest cave in the state and tours are available during the summer time. Great hiking trails plus horseback riding.

Lake Louise is only about 700 acres in size but a great little lake to picnic at or take a swim at the beach. Hiking and horseback riding are very popular at this park.

Myre-Big Island State Park is located on 1,648 acres near Albert Lea Lake. This park is spread out with lots of hiking trails to choose from around marsh areas for viewing water fowl.

Sakatah Lake State Park is where the prairie and the woods meet. It may only be 842 acres but it has great hiking and the Sakatah Singing Hills bike trail that runs through it. The biking trail is 39 miles of paved trail from Faribault to Mankato.

Rice Lake State Park is located 7 miles east of Owatonna. Bring your binoculars for this park for wonderful bird watching spring or fall. Other highlights include canoeing and nature observations.

Nerstrand Big Woods Park is located southeast of Northfield. This is where farmland meets the hardwoods. From the picnic area you hike a short distance to Hidden Falls. Great place to check out the fall colors or spring wildflowers.

The fall is a breathtaking time to visit Minnesota State Parks and take in the fall colors. There are 72 state parks and 2 national parks located in Minnesota. Take advantage of the beauty that will soon be displayed from either north or south in the state.
